Ok, so how sure are you that the pink tree is a cherry blossom? We have the same trees in our yard (both pink and white versions) and have been debating what they are. Jon says crab apple, my Mom thinks cherry blossom. Personally I have no idea. But you seem rather horticulturally inclined so I thought I'd ask. :)

Well, horticulturally inclined is an overstatement. But in this case I am sure that they are actually crab apples. That part tends to get cut off from the first slide in the slideshow. I mentioned "cherry colored", but cherries they're not.

And yet, do either actually produce apples or cherries? Or is the name just false advertising...
Because I have to say that I don't recall seeing crab apples ever appear on our crab apple tree. Just a question ;)

You might have been sleep deprived. It always depends on what kind of a year it was for blossoms (huge this year at our house, but not nearly so much last year), but the crab apples on our big tree expecially weigh the branches down noticeably. They're no good for eating, mind you, and Lee doesn't appreciate having to pull up the seedlings they start, but they are pretty, and the birds love 'em in the winter.
